City Council

Local self government is carried out by the City Council. It consists of thirty six deputies elected during the Parliamentary elections based on proportional system on March 26, 2006.

Major political parties and organizations are represented in the City Council.

Deputies take active part in the work of the following commissions:

• Permanent Commission in the matters of regulations, deputy ethics and legality;
• Permanent Commission in the matters of the budget, land relations, municipal economy management;
• Permanent Commission dealing with social humanitarian matters;
• Permanent Commission in the matters of entrepreneurship and investment development;
• Permanent Commission in the matters of industry, agriculture, construction, municipal improvements, transport, trade and consumerism.

Executive body of the City Council is the executive committee, consisting of thirteen members, headed by the city mayor.
